FD2304 is a prehardened nickel-chromium alloy plastic die steel. The so-called"Pre-hard", refers to the steel in the factory has been carried out by the steel heat treatment (quenching + tempering) , to achieve the required hardness (usually in the 30-36 HRC or so) . Therefore, the mold factory after purchase, no longer need to complex and expensive heat treatment, can be directly machining (such as milling, turning, drilling, carving, etc.) to manufacture the mold, it greatly shortens the mold manufacturing cycle, and avoids the heat treatment may bring the risk of deformation.
I. Core features
The core value of FD2304 lies in its excellent processing friendliness, good comprehensive performance and cost-effective balance.Supply in pre-hardened state
This is its greatest advantage. Ex-factory hardness is usually 30-36 HRC (specific hardness varies from supplier to supplier) . This hardness range can ensure that the mold has enough strength and wear resistance for production, and will not cause excessive wear to the processing tool, and achieve good machinability.
Excellent polishing performance
FD2304 material uniformity, fine organization, can be polished to a very high level of finish (such as A2-A1 mirror effect) , meet Zero pairs of appearance requirements of plastic products (such as home appliances, automotive interior, daily necessities production needs) .
Good etching pattern performance
The uniform nature of the material also makes it very suitable for etching (textured) processing, clear lines, uniform.
Balanced strength and toughness
It contains nickel (Ni) and chromium (CR) , which gives it good overall mechanical properties and can meet the production needs of small and medium-sized injection molds.
Good dimensional stability
Because it is prehardened steel and has been heat treated in the steel plant, the internal stress is small, and the size change is small in the processing and subsequent use.
Cost-effective
Compared with high-end mirror steels (such as FS139M) or hot-work steels (such as FT416ESR) that require vacuum heat treatment, FD2304 has a much lower cost and can meet the needs of a large number of common plastic molds, it is one of the most widely used plastic die steels.
Main chemical constituents (typical values)
FD2304 is similar to the international common P20 + NI type steel, its typical chemical composition is as follows:Elemental carbon (c) chromium (CR) manganese (MN) molybdenum (Mo) nickel (Ni)
0.40% ~ 2.00% ~ 1.50% ~ 0.20% ~ 1.00%
Nickel (Ni) : is a key alloying element that significantly improves the hardenability and core toughness of steel, ensuring uniform hardness and properties even for large size modules.Typical areas of application
FD2304 is suitable for making molds for most general purpose plastic products, in particular:Small and medium-sized injection molds: such as home appliance casings, toys, consumer goods, office equipment.
Bloom moulds with good surface finish for the production of ABS, PP, PS, PC, etc. .
Etch mold: very suitable for surface etch (textured) treatment.
Long-life mold: because of its pre-hard characteristics, wear resistance is better than ordinary P20, suitable for the production of large quantities of mold.
Die accessories: such as mold, slider, lifter and so on.
Heat treatment and processing
No heat treatment required: this is the number one reason for using prehardened steel. Die manufacturers in the processing before and after quenching and other heat treatment should not be carried out.Nitriding treatment can be carried out: in order to further improve the wear resistance and antirust ability of the mold surface, and prolong the life of the mold, the finished FD2304 mold can be nitrided (such as gas nitriding, ion nitriding) , the surface hardness is over 1000HV.
Points for attention in processing:
Although called"Pre-hard", but the hardness of the processing tools still have certain requirements. It is recommended to use high quality carbide cutting tools and appropriate cutting parameters.
Conclusion
FD2304 is a precise positioning, economic and practical“Machine tool”-type die steel. It solves the core contradiction of cost, cycle and deformation risk in die manufacturing perfectly by presetting the hardness at the factory. FD2304 achieves an excellent balance between processability, polishability, and cost for a wide range of general-purpose plastic mold applications that do not require extreme corrosion resistance or ultra-high heat resistance, is a very reliable and efficient choice for mold manufacturers in the selection of materials.
